Jerome on Laneway

Laneway was purely built on the momentum. My family and all my friends have been notorious for throwing parties. That’s all it was, a party. All it was meant to be was a party, and today it still is. Bands we like, and people we like. And we believe that other people like the people we like, and they like those people. It’s anti-festival. I think we still have the most respectful discerning crowd. And it doesn’t mean we have a crowd better than any other festival, but we have a crowd that really loves music. Not just one band, but across the board, and they appreciate music they haven’t even heard before. And that says a lot. I love the challenge, and I love seeing all those people have a great time. The most exciting part is walking around and seeing people having a great time. That far outweighs the name ‘St Jerome’s Laneway Festival’. Laneway is very unique. We’re not saying we’re anything groundbreaking. We’re not the first festival that’s happened, and we’re not festival scientists. But the nature of the music is so intimate, and it means so much to the people that are coming to see the show. They don’t go because it’s St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, they go because of the acts. And after all this time, that’s great. That’s the most important thing; they’re there for the same reason I’m there.
